Well, the July 11th filler (above, for about 48 hours) is the short version of things, I suppose. The long version is that Crash, Renthor, *AND* Mike are heading back to Georgia come September. I'm still a little off-kilter about all this. I mean, yes, they're not really comfortable in Ohio and I respect their decisions and all that, but... it's just not something I can do right now. It's the end of an era, I suppose. I've been rooming with these guys in some capacity for... what? 4 years now? More? And now they're going to be 1000 miles away. I know, I know, things change, blah-blah-blah. Still, it's an ending, and endings are always a bit sad.

And Cheshire Grin is definitely going to be changing seasons, too. Whatever else happens, it will not be the same. I know I make alot of noise about being the voice an the writer of Cheshire Grin, but without Crash's input on characters, dialogue, and story, Cheshire Grin would never have become what it is. The whole "So I sez to this girl...." joke that I love running into the ground? That was Crash. Hell, the entire character of Jon? Crash. And now that voice is going to be gone. Don't get me wrong, I don't intend to let that stop the comic from continuing, but it will definitely be different.

And yes, I'm considering drawing it myself. It's been a LONG couple of weeks, and I've been drawing like a fiend. There's an entire series of entries on it in my LJ, which are about to lose their custom-listed status and be available to all. To get you up to-date before that happens, I've spent the last few weeks just working on getting used to the media and drawing faces, and I'm about to launch into another couple of weeks of drawing just bodies. After that ANOTHER couple of weeks working on incorporating backgrounds, charactes, perspective, and all that. Then another few weeks pulling everything together and getting used to the digital side of things (e.g. scanning and touching up). And then...? I'll decide if my drawing hand is even good enough to bother continuing. Because I'm all about getting this story told, but I'm not going to subject people to crappy illustrations in an effort to tell it.

Wish us luck.

I will definitely be sad to see Crash's artwork go. I'm utterly in love with the painterly feel of his coloring and I've enjoyed getting to see the improvements in expression and gesture.

You're right it won't be the same after September, and change is always hard to deal with. Still, if it's a passion you've got to follow in continuing to create the strip, then go for it. :)
